...Sukehiro Hasegawa, the top UN official in East Timor, has acknowledged for the first time that the UN system failed to bring anyone to justice for crimes that included sex abuse of children and bestiality.
...peacekeepers left behind at least 20 babies they had fathered to Timorese women who are now stigmatised and in some cases ostracised by their communities.
It revealed that one UN peacekeeper from an unnamed country sexually abused two boys and two girls in the enclave of Oecussi, and in 2001, two Jordanian soldiers were evacuated home with injured penises after attempting sexual intercourse with goats.
Well, it's nice they evacuated the injured Jordanians - but what happened to the poor goats?
Disgusting.
@Franz Josef
If you will stop insulting American citizens, I will let your pointless non sequitur comment stand without deletion.
Is your handle after the Austro-Hungarian emperor, who crushed democratic movements, enslaved entire nations and started the First World War?
@FJ
FYI, if you would stop calling names, your comments wouldn't be deleted.
Please direct your attention to the Code of Honor.
I'm familiar with the code as no doubt you are with silly censorship! There was nothing in the original post to warrant any sort of deletion other than your apparent oversensitivity which is regrettable.
@FJ
Perhaps you are familiar with the Code, but you are not following it.
On the contrary, I suggest your behaviour falls short of what is good and proper. Deleting threads because you do not like the content shows a disrespect for the debate, the medium and for those participating.
Not at all. I have not deleted threads, I have deleted insults.
As you can tell, once you stopped insulting nationalities and individuals, your comments remain, even if they are devoid of content.
Let that be your lesson for today: Keep a civil tongue in your head and your posts will linger.
Meanwhile, UN peacekeepers are busily raping their way across the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Their former leader, Kofi Annan, must be so proud.
Not only in the Congo, but in every single UN peacekeeping deployment are there allegations of sexual abuse.
I suggest you take a long hard look at you editorial policy and the code of honour. You do yourself no favours whatever. That you see these comments as insults is a reflection either on your ability to discuss your case or on your (wilful?) misunderstanding.
It would seem the debate deserves better than you have given it.
